And Just Like That…

We’re HOME!!! After a short night, most thanks to my adrenaline than the new baby, we spent the morning awaiting discharge. It took a little bit longer than we had hoped, but since Solly’s sugars were low, he had to have lots of heel pokes, and they were a few hours apart. I am thrilled that he is such a tolerant little guy, because he just hacked them, along with being weighed and measured and checked over and rechecked. He’s a champ.

I was SO pleased when the shifts changed over and our nurse for the morning came by to greet us. Her first observation was that it looked like my IV hurt. She was right, it really really did. She asked if she could take it out, to which I wholeheartedly consented, and I was free of it nice and quick! I’m sure lots of you can relate to the comfort in just no longer being tethered to a rolling pole anymore!! As soon as that was done, I was dressed and feeling so much better, and less bionic.

It wasn’t too long before Solly and I were both squared away to leave, but as tends to happen, it took a while before anyone actually brought us discharge papers and let us leave. But we eventually made our way out, and proudly carried our new little bundle to the van. He was SO cute!!!

In case anyone was wondering, thats a 3-6 month sized shirt.

Our evening was full at home, as goes without saying. The kids were so tired and honestly, pretty grumpy, but they were pretty curious about Solly. They knew his name and were clearly anticipating, but they each responded to him how I thought. Rowan goes from being completely uninterested to being aggressive and smacking at him. He’s got time, he’ll figure it out 😉 Dekker says he likes Solly but doesn’t want to hug or kiss him or really touch him yet. He was the same with the others. Laela was probably the most tired of the group when we got home, so while she wasn’t completely ecstatic over him, she called him by name and pointed out how soft he was, touching his cheeks, hair, and blanket. At one point, she rested her cheek against his and said “Cute little guy!” They will get more accustomed to each other very soon, I’m sure, but they’re well on their way.

Bedtime was pretty crazy. Laela was in bed by 6:30, and Dekker made a very serious attitude adjustment, and went down SO much better than we thought he would at 7:00! Happy to tidy toys, even. Rowan went down well too, and played a little in his crib before falling asleep. Once the house was quiet, Jerilee ducked in to meet the little prince. They had a nice date before she offended him, and then he just cried, and the moment was over. Sensitive little guy, apparently. But he ate a little and went down to bed, and the three of us had a visit in the living room. Lots and lots to talk about!!

But more on the details later. While Solly is FINALLY here, and we can all relax a bit, we can’t actually, because we’re moving in three days. Sooooo now is the time to SLEEP! First, a little soak in the tub, but then to bed. Mmmmm, my bed, how I’ve missed you…..
