Room Sharing 2.0

I realize that I’ve written a post called “Room Sharing” in the past. It was based on having Laela in our room, and my honest feelings about it. In case you missed it, I was pretty over sharing a room with Laela a long time ago. Yet, here she remains. But there is potential now, that she will be moved soon!

Before that, though, I have to tell a quick story from the morning. We were all waking up and Brady and I could hear Dekker in his room, awake and moving around. I love this kid. He wakes up, but still won’t get off of his bed. He waits on his bed, with a shelf full of books and stuff toys staring at him, and he waits for us to come. It is awesome. However, this morning, he fell out of bed while he was awake. He climbed out of his crib once, which resulted in a bed instead of a crib that very day, but he has ever fallen out of his bed bed. Until this morning. We heard a thump, and then a bit of crying. Maybe we’re bad parents, but knowing he didn’t fall far, and that he wasn’t crying super hard, we checked the monitor first. He was crying away, and climbing back into his bed. Poor, obedient boy. It just warmed my heart. And his face.

No, we don’t abuse him. It looks bad, though. I swear, he fell. Poor dude.

Brady spent the afternoon doing some yard work, and upon nap time, we decided that enough is enough, and it is time to try and sleep our kids together. Luckily they were both nice and tired, and we went in together, tucked them both in, gave them both kisses, closed the door, and made a run for the baby monitor! We watched them lay silently for maaaybe thirty seconds before Dekker stood up and peeked at Laela. She was still there, so he lay down, and they both fell asleep.

While they slept, Brady and I went outside and bagged up all the grass he had scratched off of our lawn. I LOVE how big and open our yard is, but wow!, it requires a lot of hours of mowing/raking/maintenance! We make a point to be thankful for it, though, as I am confident we’ll never have such a beautiful property ever again.

Once the bagging was done, we went back inside and were met with this:

They were both awake, and I have no idea who woke who. But it didn’t matter. They got for sure a solid 1.5 hours! When we went in to get them, they were pretty happy!

I had put Laela down in the middle of her crib, but she does this funny bum-drop dance and shimmies her way around, so she had quite literally worked her way into a corner.

(Note that they both have owl blankets 🙂 )

Dekker was thrilled to have shared a room with Laela! THRILLED! He talked and talked about it. He’s been asking to share with her for a while now, and he finally got his wish.

We had high hopes for the nap, and it worked out wonderfully. However, I’m still pretty unsure about nighttimes together already. We get the occasional full nights sleep out of her, so the plan tonight is to let her cry it out in the middle of the night and see what happens. We did this a while ago and after one night of crying, we had a full week of sleeping through the night. However, with my grandma passing away and all of that travel and hubbub, we lost our groove and haven’t been abel to get it back. Hopefully tonight! Once she knows she’s fine through the nigh, I’m not worried about her waking up, fussing a bit, waking Dekker a little, and them falling back to sleep. Deks is great at that. I just don’t think it would be fair to have her wail her head off for an extended period of time in his room. My sensitive little boy would likely be pretty shaken up by that. But hey! High hopes 🙂 I’d love to hear some of your success stories of room sharing!

On that note, both kids are down for the night now. We have had a really full day of yard work, playing with a new tub of toys, and our house still smells like supper. Time to complete our last job or two around here before settling in to the bath and then bed. It feels so much like a Saturday today, and I love that it isn’t!

Hailey, did you happen to read the article this week of a family who had someone hack their video monitor and was talking to and watching their babies? You need to double check that yours is secure. 🙂
I’ll try to find the article for you.
