Garage Sale Day!

Today was pretty much awesome! I love days like today. I feel wiped out and sooo sore, but for reasons that make it completely worth it. However, I had a parenting fail.

Dekker is sooo sunburned! He was in his stroller for a couple of hours all uncovered, and we didn’t even think about it!!! Worst mother ever. For today anyway. He’s still very happy and he doesn’t seem to mind having aloe rubbed on his face so hopefully he won’t suffer too much.

We had a few big items we were in search of and we didn’t have much luck with many of them. Which is ok. Really, garage sale day is more about the social aspect, running into lots of people that you really only see a couple of times a year. Everyone is out on garage sale day!

We did manage to score some sweats and a grey sweatshirt for Dekker. He used to have just a plain grey sweatshirt and I mourned the day he outgrew it. It just looked perfect on him. So I was pretty thrilled to find one today for so cheap. I think my favorite find for him was socks. I know it sounds kind of lame and probably super cheap, but isn’t it silly how much kids socks cost? We just recently bought him I think a three pack of white socks for $6. Absurd. So he really wears his socks until they basically disappear or he outgrows them. At the last garage sale we hit, they had a box marked “toddler socks” so I went to stick my nose in there. Not literally. No one likes to smell socks. But I moseyed over, and when the woman running the sale saw me she offered me the whole box of socks for $2. Considering it was a decent sized box and the tag said fifty cents per pair, I figured why not. 42 pairs of socks later, I am thrilled with my find!! There are probably three or four pairs that are too small but the rest will be perfect 🙂 Yay socks!!

We found a bit more for the new baby! Still not knowing the gender drives me a little bit nuts, because I don’t love too many gender neutral baby things. Pale yellow gets old to me really fast. But I found a Sophie giraffe for $1, which is an awesome deal! Plus some great winter boots with fake fur on the inside that could definitely be trendy with pants and a sweater, or a cute dress and leggings. I found a white muslin blanket with green and brown birds on it for $2 and we even found our second crib!!!

Before anyone really gets on me about this, I know Dekker is going to be two by the time the baby comes. I’ve heard lots of opinions and we can definitely all have our own, but I’m not in a rush to get Deks out of his crib. He has not had any interest (yet) in exiting his crib on his own. He loves it, and I’m sure I can thank it for playing a role in the amount he sleeps. If he ends up being out of it before baby #2 comes, so be it, but we are currently preparing to have two kids in cribs. We found an amazingly sturdy, not too huge crib for $40, which is an AMAZING find! We are so thrilled with it! Unfortunately we couldn’t get the pieces to fit in our car so we’ll have to pick it up Monday but hopefully I’ll put up a picture soon. Very exciting 🙂

It would appear we are suckers for punishment. We were all fading and achy by the time we arrived back at our car, yet we headed to the city. We didn’t find any patio chairs and really want some for the coming warm days. So we headed in and picked some out, bought them, and promptly returned them when they didn’t fit in our car. Sigh. And we think we can have two kids in our Mazda?! Either way, we got to take advantage of Frappy Hour one last time before it ends tomorrow, and head home.

I am sooo sore! Makes me feel a bit out of shape but I know I’m actually in fine shape. Just a little pregnant and not set up to walk miles and miles in the sun and wind.

Being home brought a nap, supper, and bathtime for Dekker. There is a painfully adorable video of Dekker post-bath on my Facebook if you haven’t already seen it 🙂 It was a tear free bath too, which is kind of a big deal when one is sunburned and already uncomfortable. But he was a trooper.
