Is the cantaloupe pink or blue?

I won’t keep anyone guessing. As far as we know, the cantaloupe is still orange. Sigh. Baby was not ready to be on display quite yet. I’ll share a bunch more details on baby in a sec. First a quick flood update:

When we left for the city this morning, the water levels has stayed pretty much the same as the night before. By the time we arrived home, two of our four big pumps had been turned off and the water level has stayed the same. Everything is still in place and waiting to be needed, but things are remaining hopeful for our little town, and appear to be under control.

As for the ultrasound, I can’t deny that we are very disappointed about not being able to find the baby’s gender. I know it happens sometimes, and thats ok. I will of course love whatever kind of baby comes out in the end, but I suppose we are just people that don’t even have the inner debate about whether or not to find out. We were so excited to know more about our baby and make it more personal that way! But we can’t, and thats ok.

One thing that may change this is that our baby is currently sitting in the breech position. It is still plenty early enough for baby to shift into a head down position, but because of this, we may be scheduled for another ultrasound at a later date to check on the position, which would give us another shot at discovering the babys gender. A weird thing about babys position is that its laying quite horizontally, but mostly feet first. The horizontalness (yup, its a word) is whats making me not have much of a bump at all. As soon as that kid either drops head down or full on feet down, then I’ll have a much bigger bump very quickly. Good to know anyway, as I was curious where my bump was. All things considered though, baby looks gorgeous. We saw straight bones, moving hands and feet, and the heart, brain, and kidneys. The tech even showed us the small bubble in the stomach that showed that the baby was drinking, and then right then and there, the baby peed! Hahaha! Good laugh 🙂 The tech didn’t hide the fact thats she was thrilled with our baby. Its measuring exactly to the day! 19 weeks 6 days today. Perfect. And really, I can’t complain about having a modest child. Really, knowing to keep their legs closed is not a bad lesson to learn this early in life! Our tech was really lovely and even gave me a chance to use the bathroom in the middle and do one more quick check to see if baby had shifted at all, but its legs were even tighter together so she had to give up. But every effort was made and we left thrilled with such a healthy baby. Just wish we knew one more detail 🙂 But its really a small thing in the big picture right?

So while we felt a little discouraged, we went and accomplished several other things! I got my legs waxed, Brady bought a sweet new tool he needs for working for his new homebuilder, we bought some groceries, I chatted with my sister on the phone, we hit up Costco, got half price frappes from Starbucks, and then spent the evening with my parents. It was a good day, but a bit emotionally draining. I am tired. Brady is hauling all the stuff from the car into the house now so I don’t have to. Tomorrow we’ll spend the evening with friends we love. Lots to look forward to.

Here's a sideways shot of babys nose and mouth with a hand beside. Just looks so...real! And human! Sounds silly, I know, but this just makes me excited :)

Its been a good day. A big day, but a good one. Sorry I couldn’t give you more riveting gender news, but hopefully we’re all super thankful that baby is as healthy as it is. I know we sure are over here!!! God is good, all the time.
