Spring

Today finally felt like spring! Our evacuation alert was lifted, the sun was shining, Dekker actually woke up in the morning, I put supper together early, and I can officially be 20 weeks pregnant 🙂 Sooo many positives! Its amazing what a bit of sunshine (and one less whirring pump) can do to boost a mood!

We were planning on having our friends Hailey and Nolan and their two boys over, but since our house is still basically chaos, we rearranged our plans and spent the afternoon and evening at their place. I still brought honey chicken, since I was sooo hungry for it, but we prepared the salad and rice and everything else once we arrived. But before I go into the details of the day, I want to focus on Dekker for a second.

IMG_0993Poor boy took a good spill this morning. He was pushing a chair around the house and it seemed to outrun him somehow. We’re not sure if he specifically took the chair or the floor to the face, but either way, the result is a big fat lip. You can see that he split it a little ways in there, but the big brown streak is some kind of internal bloodule. Yup, its a word. Either way, he was quite upset and was very tired after. He seemed to be pretty wiped out after that so we kept him up for a while but eventually put him down for a nap. He woke up for a quick lunch before we headed for Saskatoon. But instead of staying super sensitive and cranky all day (like I would have) he was a total sport! He had been to Hailey and Nolan’s once, and he was very scared of their little dog, having never been around animals much. Last time we were over, he barely would allow us to set him down on the floor, even though their dog is tiny and harmless. He did WAY better this time! He still acted a little nervous but if Moxie left, he would look around until he found her, and would giggle at her. So I think his next visit will be even better 🙂 He did awesome!!! But back to the beginning of the story…

I wore a tank top today!!! It was so nice to have the sunroof open again, and feel the heat of the sun on my shoulders. I love warm weather. When we arrived at our friends place, we set up the crock pot and chatted for a bit before we decided to hit up Starbucks for Frappy Hour. We met at a nearby Safeway and ordered our huge frappes. They even ordered a small strawberry smoothie for Dekker and their oldest to split. A recent discovery of ours is that Dekker loves smoothies. His half was destroyed in a matter of moments. Motivation to go buy smoothie stuff. On the list. But in no rush to run back out into the blazing sun, we punked down on the chairs next to the Starbucks kiosk and caught up. Meanwhile Dekker walked back and forth past the table, chatting to himself. At one point, he brought his smoothie cup up to the kiosk and held it up, as if begging for more 🙂 My beautiful boy. Thats why I could never work at a place like that. I would have snuck the kid more smoothie. But it was painfully adorable.

Once back home, Deks went down for a sleep and we all relaxed and put together a salad and eventually sat down to dinner. It actually went over really well, which felt really good. I always brag about my honey chicken, but now there’s that pressure tied to it, that it has to be amazing every time! But I loved it, and it seemed to be a hit. Too bad there wasn’t more chicken though. Our bad. I’m pretty sure we all had plenty though, and we were way too full to even think about dessert, so we didn’t. We went and played downstairs until it was time to go.

And our beautiful friends waved at the window 🙂 I grew up in a home where we always waved our guests out, my mom always waved at us when we walked to school, etc. We still wave when we leave, and it feels funny not to. I LOVE that they waved 🙂 Now we don’t have to feel like dorks when we wave to them.

Love you guys! And love your boys. Again, soon please. I’m voting frozen yogurt and a picnic…
