Bust Date

We decided to spend the evening in Dalmeny picking music for the Sunday church service with my mom. I learned late last night that a farmers field had overflowed onto the highway and wasn’t considered passable for anything other than heavy trucks. Some people braved it but I had no intention. So I decided to leave home in the early afternoon so I could really see where I was going while I tried to navigate the grid roads. Lots of them were closed, but with the help of Brady creeping me using the “Find my iPhone” app and telling me where to go, I made it to the highway around the mess. Yay! To celebrate, I decided Dekker and I would duck into the city for Frappy Hour for a very special treat, and then head to Dalmeny. Well that boy. He fussed the entire time! In the car, at Starbucks, at the Telus kiosk I had to stop at, and back in the car. Just whined!!! I took him to my parents house, changed his diaper, and let him play a bit until grandma came home from visiting with friends. Once he had seen her and played a little bit, he went to bed. Poor boy was just having a rough day.

Brady came after work, and my dad is on the road with work, so my hubs and my mom and I settled in for dinner. Sooo good! We picked music and ran through it once after we ate. Pretty productive if you ask me! I saw a really cool thing happen with Dekker during the evening while we practiced music. Dekker is a natural drummer, and we pulled out the nice set of bongo drums my parents have. He loved them, and drummed like crazy! But then he wanted to play with them with drumsticks, and that can cause a lot of damage and break the skins. So we asked him not to and he started really fussing. I tried to be super calm and just sort of tell him what the situation was. I told him that these drums are just for hands, and he could either just play them that way, or maybe mommy would have them. And he could pick. And WOW did he struggle with that!! He held tight to his sticks but just leaned over the drums and whined. Then he’d seem to go to beat the drums with the sticks, but he’d hesitate. You could really tell he was thinking. Finally he kind of slinked away and put his sticks on the ottoman. We tried to really celebrate him and how great he listened, but he was pretty peeved. But I was SO proud of him!! Great decision, little one!

We made it back home actually using the highway. I have to say it was super nerve wracking because there was definitely water rushing across the road! But we made it, so whew! At least I know how to get out of town safely and that I can still take the highway home instead of finding another detour. Hopefully it only keeps going down.

Tomorrow I have a doctors appointment booked. I was toying with the idea, and a few of you guys thought it was a good idea, so I called this morning and they squeezed me in tomorrow. I was worried that I would be seen as a hassle but when I told them my reason for visiting, the receptionist seemed to think it was very important that I was seen. She actually tried to convince me to come into the walk-in today but I said I would rather see my own doctor. So tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll even get a few other things done. I’ve been making a list on my phone of things I need to do and keep forgetting, or just groceries I need to buy. Its called “Listy-List.” I figure I could try and knock a few things off of it tomorrow. But tomorrow night I’ll be gone again at a music committee meeting with a few ladies from my church. Really hoping the highway is dry by the time I have to drive home in the dark 🙁

I’m really looking forward to the rest of this week though! I’m actually anticipating my doctors appointment tomorrow, which may be weird but I truly am. Hopefully noodle bowls with Brady one evening this week. Friday maybe? And Saturday is Dalmeny Garage Sale Day!!! I have another list (secondary to Listy-List) of things to look for while shopping in other people’s cast-offs. I know, I shouldn’t need a list, but not only do I love lists, but I have pregnancy brain. So eat me. Anyone else coming??

My feet are cold and my bath is running. So long suckers!
